German President Steinmeier pleased to see an experienced foreign policy expert in the post of Latvian president

RIGA - German President Frank Walter Steinmeier, congratulating the newly elected President Edgars Rinkevics, expresses his satisfaction to see such an experienced foreign policy expert in the post of President of Latvia, a spokeswoman of the German Embassy in Riga Natalja Buinicka informed LETA.

The President of Germany heartily congratulated Rinkevics on his election as President of Latvia. The German President praised the trustful and close cooperation between Steinmeier and Rinkevics when they served as foreign ministers at the same time.

"Since then, under the influence of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the cooperation of our two countries and our common membership in the European Union and NATO have gained even greater value than they have had so far. [...] Allow me to confirm that Germany and I personally are together with you in genuine friendship and solidarity," said the German president.

He stated that he has always been very happy to visit Latvia and the Baltic countries. Steinmeier expressed the wish that he and Rinkevics would continue to deepen everything they started as foreign ministers for the benefit of both countries.

"I would like to exchange opinions on this issue when you visit Berlin. I wish you much happiness, success and hard work in your new high position," emphasized Steinmeier.
