TALLINN – The German bus company Flixbus is continuing with plans postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis and starting trips from the Baltics to Eastern and Western European cities with the first trips taking place on July 16.
Flixbus' new routes will depart from Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius and Kaunas. Among the destinations are both Warsaw and Berlin, the company said.
The starting offer consists of a total of 19 destinations and the Flixbus integrated ticketing system provides access to more than 100 destinations, from Warsaw to other Polish cities and to Western and Southern Europe.
Flixbus is one of the largest long-distance bus operators in Europe. At the same time, it is an IT company with a technological platform that deals with ticket sales, customer service and network planning.
Flixbus offers marketing and sales, while local partners are responsible for bus management. In the Baltics, the main transport partner of Flixbus' newly opened routes is the Lithuanian bus company Ollex. The new route from Vilnius to Berlin through Warsaw is managed by the Polish partner Zak Express.
Flixbus has taken a number of precautions and improved its safety rules for passengers. Among other things, passengers and drivers are required to cover their mouth and nose when entering and traveling on the bus and a contactless ticketing system and document control are used upon entering the bus.
In addition, passengers are required to disinfect their hands when entering the bus, with the carrier guaranteeing the availability of hand disinfectants. The bus can only be entered through the back door and a distance of two meters must be maintained when entering.
Vehicles are disinfected after each trip. Flixbus asks all passengers to monitor their health carefully and to travel only in good health. In addition to the above rules, passengers are required to comply with local laws and precautions in the country in which they are located.
Flixbus currently operates in 29 countries in Europe, Asia and North America, connecting approximately 2,500 different destinations.
