General meeting of European Latvian Association to take place in Riga

RIGA - Members of the European Latvian Association (ELA) will gather for a general meeting in Riga on July 31 to mark the organization's 70th anniversary, ELA representative Rasa Salina informed LETA. 

The ELA meeting with assess the organization's achievements and set goals for further common work. ELA members also intend to discuss common plans, priorities and needs with leaders of other Latvian diaspora organizations in Europe, the ELA Presidium and Latvian partners. 

President Egils Levits and other top state officials are expected to deliver opening speeches at the ELA meeting. The three panels planned for the morning session will focus on the ELA's  role in maintaining the diaspora's ties with Latvia, the diaspora's Latvian education and a civic philanthropy campaign, intended to attract various resources for nongovernmental organizations in Latvia and abroad.
