RIGA - The current geopolitical situation is full of challenges, and the future of the country will depend on their solutions, Finance Minister Arvils Aseradens said at the Unity party congress on Saturday.
Addressing the congress participants, Aseradens pointed out that Unity is present in various multifaceted processes, and managing change is never easy and is full of contradictions, especially when the road map is not available. According to him, given the geopolitical situation and the aggression launched by Russia in Ukraine, the challenges are many and the future of the country will depend on their solutions.
As a result of Russia's aggression, effective security solutions need to be worked on, and various military exercises are being held in Latvia to strengthen defense capabilities.
Aseradens thanked the party members for the work done on security issues, tax policy and education quality, stressing that it is necessary to work to further strengthen national security, ensure quality health care, develop the economy and promote its growth.
As one of the most important tasks for the party, Aseradens mentioned preparations for the local elections. He stressed that the party must maintain at least its current representation in Latvia's municipalities.
"The issue of Riga is crucial," said Aseradens, pointing out that the current mayor, Vilnis Kirsis (New Unity), will need all the support he can get.
Attracting young people to the party is also important. Generational change should be encouraged, he added.
