Foreign Ministry parliamentary secretary thanks Montenegro for participation in NATO battle group

RIGA - Foreign Ministry Parliamentary Secretary Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica (New Unity) during a meeting with a delegation of the Montenegrin parliamentarians thanked Montenegro for participation in the NATO battle group in Latvia, LETA was told at the Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting Kalnina-Lukasevica and Andrija Nikolic, chairman of the Montenegrin parliament's foreign relations and emigration committee, discussed Latvia-Montenegro bilateral relations, security policy issues and Montenegro's Euro-Atlantic aspirations. 

The parliamentary secretary noted good relations between the two countries and praised active parliamentary contacts. Special gratitude was expressed for Montenegro's participation in the multinational NATO battle group stationed at the Adazi military base.

"We highly appreciate Montenegro's participation in the Canada-led NATO battle group in Latvia, for it is an essential contribution to the security of Latvia, the region and the whole alliance," said Kalnina-Lukasevica.

The Latvian representative also appreciated Montenegro's resolve to move ahead with Euro-Atlantic integration and stressed Latvia's support for Montenegro's integration with the European Union.

"The goal to accede to the EU is a strong driver of positive change in Montenegro and the Western Balkan region in general. As a full EU member, Latvia have been sharing its EU-integration experience for 15 years already and is open to offering its expertise and experience also to Montenegro," the Latvian official said.
