First storm of this fall expected on Friday

RIGA - The first storm of this fall is expected to hit Latvia on Friday, October 9, meteorologists report.

According to the latest data, the wind will pick up significantly on Friday morning and throughout the day, with the southwest wind expected to gust at 16 to 21 meters per second. Along the seacoast, gusts could reach 28 meters per second. The wind will die down overnight into Saturday.

Wind damage is expected to be significantly less severe than from the August 22 storm, which became the strongest summer storm in Latvia on record.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the weather will be mostly dry and sunny, with light to moderate winds. The air temperature on Thursday may rise to +20 degrees Celsius. Friday will be noticeably cooler and rainier, with daytime temperatures in many places expected to drop below +10 degrees.
