RIGA - Firefighters still have not been able to localize the large-scale forest fire which has broken out in Talsi Region's Valdgale County, LETA was informed by the State Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters worked throughout the night to battle the blaze, and have been doing so for 110 hours straight.

Firefighters have set a perimeter and are currently working so that the blaze does not spread to other areas.

Just like in previous days, helicopters will also be used to help battle the blaze today.

The SFRS points out that local residents and businesses have also been actively assisting the firefighting operation by bringing additional water with tractors.

The SFRS points out that additional assistance is not necessary at the moment, and that the most important is to come up with a strategy to localize the blaze.

The SFRS also warns the public that putting out the blaze will take some time, as the peat in the area continues to smoulder.

Representatives of the Talsi regional authority informed that by now the fire has destroyed over 500 hectares large area.
