RIGA – The United States Embassy in Latvia is proud to support and welcome New York-based fashion designer and sustainability consultant, Noor Bchara. Ms. Bchara will make a four day visit to Riga from November 19 to 22 to give seminars on upcycling and repurposing design items and to meet with representatives of the Latvian fashion industry in connection with Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Noor Bchara is a fashion designer who specializes in the scalability of upcycled and repurposed design. She started her fashion career interning at Marc Jacobs and has designed at Zac Posen, TAHARI, ASL and Ellen Tracy. Bchara is currently a designer at Kate Spade. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and Polimoda in Florence, Italy, which is among the top ten advanced fashion schools in the world.
Her seminars, workshops, and lectures are tailored for designers, entrepreneurs, students, and anyone interested in the topic of sustainable fashion. On Friday, November 22, Noor Bchara will give an open lecture on sustainable design, which will be followed by Q&A. The lecture will take place at the Latvian Art Academy, K2 building, from 17:00 to 18:30. Entrance is free of charge.
Noor Bchara founded her own brand NOORISM in 2015 after being overwhelmed by the volume of poorly made clothes produced by the fashion industry on a yearly basis. NOORISM is an ethical denim brand based in Brooklyn, New York. The goal of the brand is to produce high-quality upcycled denim items in safe working conditions in New York City.
The program is supported and organized by the U.S. Embassy in Latvia, Creative Industries Incubator, and the Department of Fashion Design at the Art Academy of Latvia. Bchara’s visit is also supported by the Arts Envoy program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.
