RIGA - Although the Covid-19 vaccination plan envisages starting the vaccination of the general population in March, family physicians will begin vaccinating residents from net week, Sarmite Veide, president of the Latvian Family Physicians' Association, informed at a government meeting on Tuesday.

At the same time, she pointed out that there are still many uncertainties before the vaccination of the general public begins, such as vaccination lists.

According to the head of the association, it is not yet clear whether the vaccination lists will be created on the portal manavakcina.lv, or whether it will be created by family doctors and then integrated into the system. Negotiations are currently underway with the Vaccination Bureau and the Ministry of Health (MoH) to find a common solution.

"We would very much like to resolve all of this by the end of the week, as we are being offered to begin vaccination next week," Veide said, adding that the vaccination of the general public was planned to begin in early March, but it looks like it will begin sooner.

At the same time, the family physician expressed concerns about the e-health capacity for vaccination. She pointed out that the e-health system regularly faces technical problems, but that the portal for vaccination will only become available in eight weeks.
