TALLINN - The excise duties on diesel fuel, natural gas and electricity rose in Estonia from May 1.
The excise duty on diesel fuel grew almost 7 percent, that on natural gas by a fifth and the duty on electricity 45 percent. Additionally, the excise duties on several other fuels also increased. The duty hike does not affect gasoline or specific-purpose diesel.
Previously, the excise duty on diesel fuel was 0.399 euros per liter, but from May 1, it is 0.428 euros per liter. The levy on specific-purpose diesel remains at its current level of 0.021 euros per liter.
The excise duty on natural gas increased by roughly 18 percent from May 1. The excise duty on liquefied natural gas increased by about the same amount. Additionally, the excise duties on motor gas and liquefied motor gas moved up, but by less than 5 percent in their cases.
The excise duty on electricity increased by 45 percent -- from 1.45 euros to 2.1 euros per megawatt-hour.
In addition, excise duties for light fuel oil, heavy fuel oil and shale oil also increased from the beginning of May.
