European Commission's Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis to visit Ukraine

RIGA - The European Commission's Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis (New Unity) is due to arrive in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on a visit next Monday, January 31, his adviser Maija Celmina informed LETA. 

She said that the aim of the visit is to demonstrate support and solidarity on behalf of the European Union (EU). During the visit Dombrovskis is also scheduled to hold talks on the EU's financial assistance to Ukraine. 

On Monday, Dombrovskis plans to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal and on Tuesday, February 1, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. 

Since 2014, EU and European financial institutions have provided over EUR 17 billion in grants and loans to Ukraine. 

At the beginning of this week, the European Commission's President Ursula von der Leyen announced a new financial assistance package worth EUR 1.2 billion to help Ukraine address its financing needs due to the conflict.
