TALLINN – Eesti Liinirongid AS, the state-owned Estonian operator of passenger trains that conducts its business under the Elron brand, in January announced a public procurement for the purchase of six dual system electric trains with the option to buy an additional 10 trains in the future and has now postponed the procurement deadline from June to September.
The public procurement has two stages -- in the first stage, applicants submit a procurement passport and confirmations of compliance with the qualification conditions. In the second stage, the contracting authority proposes to qualified candidates to submit a tender, it appears from the procurement documents.
Two companies -- Stadler and Skoda -- had submitted applications by the deadline for applications, March 26. Applicants can submit a tender until the afternoon of September 1.
The delivery schedule for the main train order is related to the railway electrification process, which is planned to be completed in 2024. Elron plans to start operating with the procured trains in December 2024.
