Estonian president meets with King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden

TALLINN - Estonian President Alar Karis met with King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden at the royal palace in Stockholm on Thursday to discuss the security of the region.

"Estonia's relations with Sweden are strong both bilaterally and as a NATO partner," Karis said after the meeting. "The histories of Estonia and Sweden have been intertwined for a very long time -- we have shared values and understanding of a digital, green and sustainable Europe," the head of state said. 

During his first working visit to Sweden, Karis also visited the Estonian School in Stockholm on Thursday. The president is also scheduled to meet with Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlen on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Karis had a meeting with the Estonian community at the Estonian House in Stockholm.

The head of state will return to Estonia on Thursday evening.
