TALLINN - A discussion on restarting the European Union will take place at the Opinion Festival on Saturday, participants in which will include Estonian MEPs Riho Terras, Marina Kaljurand, Sven Mikser, Andrus Ansip, Urmas Paet and Jaak Madison.
In July, EU leaders agreed on a shared loan totaling 750 million euros and on a long-term EU budget amounting to over one trillion euros. The discussion will seek to determine if the sums are sufficient for revitalizing the European economy amid the coronavirus fallout as well as how the funds should be distributed and repaid. Topics to be covered also include the new European taxes that have been ruled out by the Estonian government, but which the European Parliament firmly supports.
The discussion at the festival to be held in the central Estonian town of Paide on Friday and Saturday will be moderated by journalist of pubic broadcaster ERR Johannes Tralla.
The discussion is organized by the European Parliament office in Estonia.
