TALLINN - In relation to the emergency situation in Estonia, the Ministry of the Interior urges residents to check and update their residence data on the population register's website at rahvastikuregister.ee.

"In the declared emergency situation, in which we need to be able to find people who have been in contact with virus carriers and restrictions on movement have been imposed on our islands and national border, it is important that the state should have the correct contact information of Estonian residents, including their residence data," Population Minister Riina Solman said.

Registering one's place of residence is mandatory to ensure that state and local government agencies are able to provide public services to residents in their area of administration as well as render communication and cooperation more efficient. It is particularly important that the data in the population register be correct in a crisis situation in case restrictions need to be imposed on movement or if the state needs to rapidly find or contact one of its residents.
