TALLINN – At its meeting on Thursday, the Estonian government approved an  agreement on solidarity measures with Finland to ensure the security of gas supply and authorized Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Taavi Aas to sign it.

The aim of the agreement is to provide a framework under which the parties can ask the other party for assistance to ensure gas supply and provide it to the other party in the event of non-functioning of the gas market, the government's communications office said.

A similar agreement entered into force between Latvia and Estonia in February.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the agreement in Estonia.
