TALLINN - The secretary general of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, Jonatan Vseviov, visited Argentina and Brazil from Sept. 25 to 27, focusing on the topic of the war in Ukraine.
Vseviov held political consultations at the Argentine Foreign Ministry, met with the head of the EU delegation and several ambassadors, as well as delivered a lecture at the local diplomats' school.
In Brazil, Vseviov spoke at a prestigious international security conference and met with the head of the EU delegation, Marian Schuegraf, as well as the honorary consul of Estonia, Oskar Metsavaht.
Bilateral political consultations were held at the Argentine Foreign Ministry with a delegation led by Deputy Minister Leopoldo Sahores. The conversation focused on the need to protect the international law and the existing security order, including by strongly condemning Russia's full-scale aggression in Ukraine and reaffirming continued support for Ukraine.
Estonia and Argentina are both part of Working Group 5 of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace plan, which aims to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity and uphold the UN Charter. Vseviov stressed that although Estonia and Argentina are geographically distant from each other, these international principles are important for both countries. They also discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation on e-governance, digital and cyber defense.
On Sept. 27, Vseviov addressed the FORTE International Security Conference in Rio de Janeiro, calling for steps to be taken to defend the rules-based world order in which changing the borders between states by force is not acceptable.
