TALLINN - Enterprise Estonia in cooperation with the Estonian Defense Industry Association is mediating the participation of Estonian businesses in the UMEX 2020 unmanned systems and technologies fair in Abu Dhabi from Feb. 23 to 25.
Participation in the fair is important, according to Enterprise Estonia, as a number members of the Defense Industry Associations are involved in the development and production of unmanned land and airborne vehicles as well as other smart solutions.
Present at the fair will be trailblazers in the field of AI-based systems equipped with autonomous functions. Exhibits include the unmanned ground vehicle Themis developed by Milrem Robotics; an automated surveillance platform for threat detection equipped with an integrated unmanned aerial inspection system by DefSecIntel; an anti-drone device Shark by Marduk Technologies, and battery-powered surveillance equipment by Defendec.
Manager of the Defense Estonia cluster Helen Naarits said that participants in the fair want their products to be visible in what they deem to be an important export market in order to strengthen existing relations and boost reliability.
"UMEX targets a region gaining access to which is very difficult. This is why being present at the fair is extremely important and Enterprise Estonia supporting it is commendable," Gert Hankewitz, export director at Milrem Robotics, said.
Enterprise Estonia's export adviser on United Arab Emirates, Jukka Hahlantera, said that consistent physical presence is crucial in the UAE and the surrounding region.
"What matters is personal relations, and business fairs are a good opportunity for forging them. In order to succeed in business, one must invest time in face-to-face communication and be available at all times," Hahlantera said.
Estonian businesses have also taken part in the UMEX fair in previous years; however, this year's event focuses on artificial intelligence and the use of smart technologies in unmanned systems and is supplemented by the Simulation and Training Exhibition (SimTEX).
Participants in a joint stand at the UMEX 2020 fair include the Estonian Defense Industry Association, Defendec OU, Milrem AS, DefSecIntel Solutions OU ja Marduk Technologies OU. The businesses' participation is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. Estonian producer of unmanned aircraft systems Threod Systems OU will be represented at the fair with a separate stand.
