TALLINN - A citizen of Estonia has been caught on an attempt to smuggle a large amount of valuable coins out of Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine reported, citing the directorate of the Western Region of the Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
During an inspection of a Dodge vehicle at the green lane of the Smolnitsa-Kroschenko border crossing, border guards and customs officials discovered that a 38-year-old Estonian citizen had 372 old coins with him, which he wanted to take to Poland.
According to officials, the total value of the coins was 500,000 Ukrainian hryvnia, or roughly 12,300 euros.
A criminal investigation on the basis of the section of the Penal Code dealing with smuggling has been opened.
