Estonian Blues in Riga, Jelgava, and Liepaja

  • 2024-01-18

Next week, the Estonian blues guitarist Andres Roots will play three solo shows in Latvia: at the Atmoda cultural centre in Riga on Thursday, January 25th, at the BJMK rock school in Jelgava on Friday, January 26th, and at the Fontaine Palace rock club in Liepaja on Saturday, January 27th. In addition to the concert, Roots will also be conducting a slide guitar masterclass in Jelgava, co-funded by the European Union’s European Solidarity Corps programme.

Andres Roots is an official Ambassador for this year’s European Capital of Culture – Tartu, Estonia. Last year, he toured not only in Estonia and Latvia but also in Germany, in Great Britain, and in Finland. His music has received airplay on five continents and his Golden Disc-earning 2016 LP "Roots Music" remains the only blues album ever to top the sales charts in Estonia. Roots’ last year’s release "Vol. 12" has invoked comparisons with not just the heyday of Mississippi Delta Blues but also with Davy Graham, Leo Kottke, Ry Cooder – and even acoustic Led Zeppelin.
