RIGA - Estonian animal rights protection organisation Loomade Nimel in two weeks has gathered 3,797 signatures for a petition calling for the ban of eggs made by Latvia’s Balticovo company over its inability to meet animal welfare standards.
Latvian Animal Freedom group also recently charged Balticovo of poor treatment of laying hens at egg farms in Iecava, Madona, and Daugavpils. The egg company countered that the animal rights group had based its accusations on video footage depicting old coops with birds in the process of molting.
