TALLINN - Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu on Thursday had a telephone conversation with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi, which covered current UN Security Council issues as well as bilateral relations.

The two ministers discussed the global situation during the coronavirus pandemic, spokespeople for the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

"International engagement and information exchange between states in containing the spread of the coronavirus are crucial," Reinsalu emphasized in the phone call.

"I invited China to attend, with a high-level representative, the May 27 open meeting on the protection of civilians in armed conflicts, where the Secretary-General of the UN Antonio Guterres will make a presentation. I also thanked China for taking part in the May 8 event of the Security Council,” the Estonian minister.

Estonia holds the rotating UN Security Council presidency this month.
