TALLINN - Estonian Minister of Foreign Trade and IT Kert Kingo met with Argentinian Minister of Modernization Andres Ibarra in Canada to discuss digital cooperation, the Argentinian minister invited Estonia to be the co-chair of the Open Government Partnership initiative.

At the meeting in Ottawa, Kingo and Ibarra discussed cooperation in the digital sphere, and Argentina's modernization minister said that the state is very much interested in a digital cooperation project with Estonia, spokespeople for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications said.

Ibarra proposed for Estonia to become co-chair of the Open Government Partnership initiative, which he opined would help Estonia introduce its achievements relating to the e-state more broadly.

"Argentina is currently creating procedures for broader implementation of electronic documents, digital signatures and face recognition, and is also carrying out an inclusive legal reform, a part of which is expanding people's rights to receive information. Argentina's interest in Estonia first and foremost concerns electronic solutions, which it seeks to implement in remote places of this geographically complex country in order to grant people better opportunities to communicate with their state and the whole world," Kingo said.

The Estonian minister will also meet with a Georgian delegation on Thursday. Georgia is a member of the partnership's steering committee and was co-chair and organizer of the event in 2018.
