TALLINN - Estonia is to take part in a session to be held in the United Nations Security Council on Thursday on the topic of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
The Security Council will be given overviews by special representative of the secretary-general for Afghanistan Deborah Lyons and civil society representatives Malala Yousafzai and Wazhma Frogh.
The Security Council session will also be attended by representatives of Afghanistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Iran and Pakistan. Estonia will be represented by its ambassador to the UN Sven Jurgenson.
Estonia and Norway are the so-called penholders for Afghanistan in the UN Security Council -- the two countries take the lead in negotiations concerning Afghanistan and are making preparations for renewing the mandate of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan in September.
