TALLINN - At the international High Security Printing conference in Morocco on Tuesday, which recognizes the world's most outstanding documents for security and design, Estonia's ID card won the award for the best new ID card in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region.
The awards were presented at the annual High Security Printing conference, held from February 9 to 11 in Rabat, Morocco. The competition features awards in several categories that highlight innovations in both document design and technology. This year, awards were presented in six categories, with Estonia winning in the "Best New National ID Card" category.
Karoline Põder, an expert at the Identity and Status Bureau of the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA), said this is the highest recognition a security document can receive for its design. "A record number of nominations were submitted this year, and to win an award in such a competitive field is a great honor for Estonia's new ID card," Põder said.
In 2019, Estonia won an award in the ID card category at the international High Security Printing conference, and in 2021, Estonia's new passport earned the top honor in the "ePassport of the year 2021" category for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region.
