TALLINN – The Estonia-Israel parliamentary friendship group of the Riigikogu on Wednesday congratulated the people of Israel on the 77th Independence Day of the State of Israel.

"We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the people of Israel on the anniversary of their declaration of independence. Since its establishment in 1948, the State of Israel has become a symbol of strength of spirit, democracy, and innovation. We admire Israel's resilience, achievements, and contributions to science, culture, technology, and international cooperation," the parliamentary friendship group said.

"Estonia and Israel are traditionally united by common values -- respect for freedom, human rights, and the rule of law, as well as unconditional love for their countries. We value highly the warm and friendly relations between our countries. We will continue to strengthen parliamentary dialogue and cultural and economic ties," the group said in the message of congratulation.

"Today, the State of Israel is facing difficult times. However, its people have repeatedly proven to the whole world that hard times only make this country and its people stronger. We wish the people of Israel peace, security, prosperity and confidence in tomorrow."

The Estonia-Israel parliamentary friendship group of the Riigikogu is chaired by Eerik-Niiles Kross and its members are Vadim Belobrovtsev, Meelis Kiili, Lauri Laats, Riina Sikkut, Riina Solman, Aivar Sõerd, Peeter Tali, Vilja Toomast and Kristo Enn Vaga.
