Equal treatment of farmers would benefit economy and promote solidarity - Levits

RIGA - On September 17, Latvian President Egils Levits met with Chair of the Saeima Economic, Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Policy Committee, Janis Vitenbergs, at the Riga Castle, LETA learned from the President's Chancellery.

During the meeting, President Levits and Chair Vitenbergs discussed solutions to problems in the construction sector and agreed that an industry-wide audit and bigger clarity is needed. Ministry of Economics, Competition Board, Procurement Monitoring Bureau and Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau have made notable progress in improving the provisions of the Public Procurement Law.

Vitenbergs briefed the President of Latvia about initiatives linked to seasonal agricultural workers’ tax rules and development of the overall agricultural policy to ensure equality between farmers – the big, medium and small farmers. President Levits underlined that equal treatment of farmers would benefit the economy and promote solidarity.

Meeting also focused on solid waste management in Riga and other issues on the agenda of the Saeima Economic, Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Policy Committee.
