RIGA - Employees of the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia face emotional attacks on a daily basis, including people calling the museum, museum director Solvita Viba said in an interview with TV3 this morning.
She explained that the museum faces provocations of varying degrees. However, she noted that overall, the number of provocations is decreasing.
Viba reminded that last year, reports were filed with the police about broken windows at the Corner House Museum, as well as provocative phone calls, and the provocateurs are known.
The museum director also said that there are people who, upon entering the museum, want to show off their political bravado. For example, a visitor recently wanted to pay with Russian rubles.
The museum director emphasized that the institution employs strong-minded people who are prepared for such situations. Viba also said that an appeal is expected in the case of a Molotov cocktail being thrown into the museum, but a date has not yet been set.
As reported, in March last year, the Riga City Court found all three defendants in the criminal case concerning the arson of the Occupation Museum guilty and sentenced them to several years in prison. The defendants in the case are Konstantins Engels, Vitalijs Lukjanovics and Valentins Razmerica.
