RIGA - The Education and Science Ministry has economized EUR 2 million in this year's budget, and plans to use this money for sports, and teacher support, according to the Finance Ministry's report.
Of the saved sum, the ministry plans to allocated EUR 253,000 for maintenance and development of information and communication technologies, EUR 150,000 for the ice machine for Culture and Sports Center Daugava Stadium, EUR 50,820 for pilot project - e-platform for development of sports schools, EUR 385,000 for organization of international sports events, and EUR 34,694 for implementation of Paralympic Sports Center projects.
Also, EUR 528,868 will be earmarked for one-time benefits for teachers in order to reduce consequences from Covi-19 crisis, underscoring that for this goal at least EUR 1,102,978 are necessary in addition.
As reported, according to the Finance Ministry's report, ministries in 2020 have economized EUR 46 million, of which EUR 19,683,356 will be transferred to the contingency funds, while EUR 26,262,884 will remain in disposal of ministries and will be used to reduce the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.
The ministry said that funds have been economized mostly in relation to cancelled trips and on-site events, transport expenses and fuel expenses, as well as cancelled public events, reduction of utilities costs and lower fuel prices.
