Education law amendments dismay Latvia’s Russians

The Latvian Cabinet of Ministers has agreed to commence from September 1, 2019 the gradual transition to Latvian as the sole language of instruction in schools. The authorities are set to complete the transition in 2022. The amendments to the Education Law and the Law on General Education have angered Latvia’s large Russian-speaking minority and ethic Russians.
