RIGA - The Economics Ministry in the upcoming heating season plans to cut electricity and heating consumption by 15 percent compared to the previous season, LETA learned from the ministry.

In the previous years, the ministry has introduced a number of measures for reducing energy consumption - the ministry's building has been renovated, and the ministry and three other institutions are housed there.

The ministry plans to reduce the heating temperature during office hours by 1-2 degrees, and reduce it considerably outside working hours.

Also, the ministry plans to install LED lights and sensors in offices.

At the same time, the ministry is considering installation of solar panels on the roof of the building.

As reported, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) issued a resolution in early August, ordering all ministries and the State Chancellery to get ready for energy austerity measures in the coming heating season.
