The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) heard on Wednesday, June 29, a case against Lithuania over suspicions that the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operated a secret prison for terror suspects in the country a decade ago.
The Strasbourg-based court held a Chamber hearing in the case of Abu Zubaydah, a Palestinian born in Saudi Arabia, versus Lithuania. The 45-year-old man claims that he was held in a secret detention facility in Lithuania in 2005 and 2006 and that his treatment “amounted to torture.”
