Delegation of four MPs goes on working visit to Japan

RIGA - Members of Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee and Defense, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee will be on a working visit to Tokyo until December 14 to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation and security cooperation between Latvia and Japan, as Saeima Press Service informed LETA

The visit is taking place at the invitation of the Japanese House of Representatives.

During the visit, the MPs will meet with members of the National Diet of Japan, representatives from the Japanese Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry, the European Union's Ambassador to Japan Jean-Eric Paquet, as well as with representatives of Latvian companies and diaspora in Japan.

Japan is one of the most important partners of the European Union and NATO in the Indo-Pacific region, said Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Inara Murniece (National Alliance). The meetings with Japanese officials will focus on support provided by the two countries for Ukraine and geopolitical challenges faced by Latvia and Japan, she explained.

The Latvian delegation visiting Japan includes Murniece, Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee member Janis Vucans (Greens/Farmers), Saeima Defense, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee's Chairman Raimonds Bergmanis (United List) and committee member Ainars Latkovskis (New Unity).
