RIGA - The Culture Ministry will request the government to pay compensations for the culture events that did not happen due to the Covid-19 crisis, the ministry's state secretary Dace Vilsone said in a video conference on the culture sector in the situation of crisis.
In her words, the ministry has developed a road map with support mechanisms that will refer to the employees of the culture sector during the state of emergency and after the crisis ends.
The Culture Ministry has decided to request compensation for expenses in relation to organization of postponed and cancelled events. "All culture institutions are in the same boat. This support is needed for Rundale Palace museum, culture centers, Daile Theater, concert hall Gors, Gertrude Street Theater, Arena Riga, festival Positivus, band Brain Storm and others," said Vilsone.
She said that the decision on the end of the state of emergency have not been made yet, but it is quite clear that social distancing measures will be in force for some time, which means that there will be restrictions on public events.
In addition, the Culture Ministry is considering a number of supporting mechanisms that will be stimulating the culture sector.
Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis (National Alliance) said at the video conference that the culture sector has been most directly stricken by the Covid-19.
