Some 500 people turned out for a rally on October 25 to protest against the Education and Science Ministry's proposal to switch to Latvian as the sole language of instruction in all high schools of Latvia.
Although the day was the first day of a week-long school holiday, most of the protesters were adults and senior residents.
Among the participants there also were European Parliament members Tatjana Zdanoka and Andrejs Mamikins (Harmony), as well as leaders of Latvia's pro-Russia organizations.
