Covid-19 spread is stabilizing, but incidence still high - CDC

RIGA - Assessing the latest epidemiological data, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) concluded that the restrictions have helped to slightly stabilize Covid-19 spread, but the incidence is still high, LETA learned from CDC representative Ilze Araja.

6,096 new Covid-19 cases were registered during last week, while a week before 7,071 cases were registered. Last week the number of new cases was 871 on average per day compared to 1,010 cases a day a week before.

Last week, in total 72,045 Covid-19 tests were made, down 3,801 tests from a week, and the share of positive tests was 8.5 percent, while in the previous week the share of positive tests was 9.3 percent.

The number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients declined from 134 patients a day on average to 116 people a day.

According to the National Health Service data, the number of Covid-19 patients in Latvian hospitals with severe symptoms has reached 1,172 people, down 28 from a week ago.
