Court orders pro-Russian activist taken into custody

The Riga Vidzeme District Court ordered on April 24 pro-Russian radical Aleksandrs Gaponenko be taken into custody as a security measure. Gaponenko has been detained in connection with a criminal process on possible activities anti-Latvian activities, his attorney Imma Jansone said. She also informed that Gaponenko has gone on a hunger strike to express his protest against Latvian security services.
