RIGA - A child from a nursery school in Pinki, outside Riga, has tested positive for Covid-19, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control informed today.
The center said it had also received information about 11 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, which brings the total count in Latvia to 60.
Epidemiologists at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control received information that a kid has contracted the coronavirus. Specialists have provided recommendations to the nursery school's administration. The Center for Disease Prevention and Control has also asked the Pinki local authority to close the nursery school Saimite and take all the necessary protection measures.
The child was not attending the nursery school when the symptoms of Covid-19 started to show. The child's contacts will be identified and infectious diseases specialists will provide them with recommendations as what steps they should take.
The nursery school's head Inga Erdmane-Hermane told LETA that the child last attended the nursery school on March 12. As reported, as of March 13, children are only allowed to attend nursery schools if their parents can confirm that neither they nor their offspring have not been in contact with infected persons.
Erdmane-Hermane does not know how the child got infected or what countries the family had visited. The nursery school is already quarantined, she said.
