Caune and Silovs named Latvia's Athletes of the Year

RIGA - At the annual Latvian sports awards in Riga last night, also called the Three Stars Awards, Latvia's best athletes of 2023 were awarded.

Goaltender Arturs Silovs, who helped Latvian earn its first ever medal at the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships, was named Latvia's Athlete of the Year.

Meanwhile, distance runner Agate Caune, who won the 5,000 meters at the European Games, as well as the 3,000 and 5,000 meters at the European U-20 Athletics Championships, was named Latvia's Female Athlete of the Year.

The Latvian national men's ice hockey team, who took bronze at the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships, was named Latvia's Team of the Year.

The lady beach volleyball duo of Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova were named Latvia's Small Team of the Year.

Luca Banchi, who led the Latvian national men's basketball team to a 5th place finish at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, was named Coach of the Year.

Meanwhile, cyclist, coach, manager and the former president of the Latvian Cycling Federation Igo Japins received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
