RIGA - Riga Mayor Olegs Burovs (Honor to Serve Riga) has cancelled decision made during his absence on appointing Emils Jakrins to the position of acting director of the Riga City Council city development department, LETA learned from the Riga City Council.

An open tender will be announced for the position of the department director. Until then, Ilze Purmale will be the acting head of the city development department.

As reported, acting Riga mayor Anna Vladova (Harmony) appointed Emils Jakrins as the acting director of the Riga City Council city development department, while Burovs was on a vacation at the end of last year.

Vladova said that there is serious work planned on Rail Baltica and other projects, and Jakrins is a professional in this area.

Early this week, Jakrins also was appointed a board member at Rigas Satiksme municipal public transport company's board.

Jakrins earlier was the acting director of the Riga City Council transport department, but left the position after former director Vitalijs Reinbahs was reinstated to the position. Former vice mayor Vadims Baranniks then appointed Jakrins to the board of Rigas Satiksme municipal public transport company, but Jakrins stepped down shortly after the corruption scandal in the company.
