RIGA - The Saeima today passed in the final reading amendments to the Immigration Law to allow foreign citizens to apply for one-year visas so they can reside in Latvia while working from home either for a foreign-registered employer or as self-employed persons.
As LETA was told at the Saeima press office, the new regulation will apply to foreign citizens working for an employer registered a member state of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and themselves registered as self-employed persons in an OECD member state.
Once their nomad visas expire, its holder will be able to request a one-year extension. If during the visa extension a foreigner decides to start a business or get a job in Latvia, they will be required to register their business or undergo procedures to receive a residence and work permit.
After both one-year terms of a nomad visas expire, its holder will not be eligible for a new nomad visa for the following six months.
