VILNIUS - A deal between two large banks operating in Lithuania, DNB, and Nordea, to combine their Baltic operations and a 213-million-euro deal on the sale of the Iki retail chain to the owner of Rimi, another major grocery chain, were the two largest merger and acquisition transactions announced in Lithuania in 2016.
Analysts say that the combined bank may be part of a strategy of DNB and Nordea to withdraw from the Baltic countries and think that the Rimi-Iki deal could trigger consolidation of other retail chains.
