RIGA - The Baltic states, Poland, Ukraine and the US will cooperate in research, according to a cooperation initiative approved by the government on Tuesday.
Scientists from the US, the Baltic states, Poland and Ukraine will be able to carry out joint research projects and produce joint publications. The initiative will also establish networks with partner countries, including US research institutions.
The development and deployment of the solutions will involve representatives from several sectors, primarily from science, engineering and technology.
The initiative is to be implemented this year and will receive EUR 420,000 from the budget of the Education and Science Ministry.
The Latvian Science Council will be the responsible institution for the implementation of the initiative.
Last August, a Memorandum of Cooperation in support of Ukraine was signed by the Latvian Science Council, the US National Science Foundation, the US National Academy of Sciences, the Estonian Research Council, the Lithuanian Research Council, the Polish National Science Centre, the Polish National Academic Exchange Agency and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine.
