Baltic defense ministers to discuss regional security in Daugavpils

RIGA - The Baltic defense ministers will meet in Latvia’s southeastern Daugavpils city on June 1-2 to discuss the region’s defense and security issues, the Latvian Defense Ministry reported.

During the meeting, Latvian Defense Minister Raimonds Bergmanis, Lithuanian Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis, and Estonian Defense Minister Margus Tsahkna will discuss trilateral cooperation in defense, implementation of the NATO-Warsaw summit decisions, NATO’s presence in the Baltic states, implementation of the global EU foreign policy and security policy and Estonia’s upcoming EU presidency.

The ministers will also sign a joint communique.

In 1992 the Baltic defense ministers signed an agreement on cooperation in defense that helps to develop national defense structures, promotes more efficient development, use, compatibility of the defense capabilities, as well as ensured more successful cooperation in peacekeeping and crisis management operations.
