VILNIUS – An aviation bomb was found and later neutralized in the Zverynas area of Vilnius on Thursday night, the 15min.lt news website reports.
Bomb disposal specialists removed the bomb's fuse, which was in the active position and pose threat, after 11 p.m.
Buildings and streets as well as a shopping mall had to be evaluated after the bomb was discovered.
"Since the Panorama shopping mall got into the evacuation zone, police officers evacuated people," army captain Nerijus Alekna told BNS Lithuania.
The bomb was found during construction work on Thursday morning. Josifas Platac, head of Vilnius Town Group, the company carrying out the work, told BNS Lithuania that the bomb was found during excavation work some three meters deep in an area where a building used to stand.
Alekna told BNS Lithuania earlier that bombs that need additional bomb squad teams to defuse them are found several times a year.
