Asylum granted to 671 foreigners since 1998

RIGA - Since 1998, 2,513 foreigners have requested asylum in Latvia, with 671 being granted an asylum status, according to information from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.

157 persons have been granted refugee status, while 514 have been granted alternative status.

The largest number of persons being granted asylum status in one year was last year - 395.

In 2015 Latvia committed to taking in 531 asylum seekers in two years.

In total, 374 persons have been relocated to Latvia under the EU relocation program so far.
