RIGA - Around EUR 1.7 billion could be paid in compensation to creative industries and the media next year, sources told LETA.

During the talks on the 2021 state budget bill, which will be reviewed by the government today before the bill is considered by Saeima in the second reading, the coalition parties discussed possible compensatory mechanisms for the representatives of creative industries in connection with the forthcoming reform of the royalty system.

Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis (National Alliance) previously said he was confident that agreement on compensatory mechanisms for creative industries could be reached already during the budget talks.

According to the latest information, the government parties have agreed on compensatory mechanisms for creative industries and the media due to the upcoming changes in the royalty system, according to which approximately EUR 1.7 million will be allocated in compensation for creative industries and the media next year.
