RIGA - The annual Riga Opera Festival commenced yesterday and will continue until June 16, as the Latvian National Opera and Ballet representative Irbe Treile informed LETA.
The festival opened with Italo Montemezzi's L'incantesimo, staged by Aiks Karapetjans and conducted by Janis Liepins, said Treile.
The festival's program also includes Gaetano Donizetti's Don Pasquale on June 6 and 13, Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelites on June 7 and 15, Richard Wagner's Der fliegende Hollander on June 8 and 12, and Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci on June 14.
The festival will close with a gala concert on June 16, which will also close the Latvian National Opera and Ballet's 2018-2019 season, conducted by Martins Ozolins and Janis Liepins and featuring Inga Kalna, Maija Kovalevska, Kristine Zadovska, Perina Medef, Sonora Vaice, Ramona Zaharia, Janis Apeinis, Andreas Bauer, Valdis Jansons, Egils Silins, Bogdan Baciu and other artists.
