RIGA - The annual Nationwide Clean-up Day was been postponed until May 16 due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country, the organizers of the event have announced.
This year's Nationwide Clean-up Day was originally scheduled for April 25.
At the same time, organizers are calling on residents not to "remained locked their homes" but to spend more time in the fresh air and organize "solo clean-ups" with a limited number of participants.
For those who choose to organize solo clean-ups, the organizers recommend being careful and observe all the necessary precautions and hygiene requirements, while "not exaggerating or losing common sense, maintaining a lively spirit and a positive attitude towards everyone around".
The first nationwide cleanup took place on September 13, 2008, and was residents' gift to Latvia on the country's 90th anniversary.
The aim of Big Cleanup Day is to make Latvia the cleanest and most pleasant place in the world by 2018, when the country will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its independence.
