RIGA - Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert in 2020.

''Andris Nelsons, Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Gewandhauskapellmeister of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, has been musically associated with us since 2010. He is a regular guest at the subscription concerts in the Musikverein Wien and at the Salzburg Festival, as well as on tours in Europe, Asia and the USA. In 2020, he will conduct with us a Beethoven cycle in concerts in Vienna and on tour. 2020 marks Nelsons' first time to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert,'' the Vienna Philharmonic said on its Facebook page.

The Vienna Philharmonic presents annually since 1939 at the New Year a program consisting of the lively and yet nostalgic music from the vast repertoire of the Johann Strauss family and its contemporaries.

These concerts not only delight the audiences in the Musikverein in Vienna, but also enjoy great international popularity through the worldwide television broadcast, which now reaches over 90 countries.
